This piece was hand thrown on the potter's wheel and fired to 2400 degrees F using only wood. For more than 60 hours straight, the kiln was stoked every 12 to 15 minutes. This piece was hand thrown on the potter's wheel and fired to 2400 degrees F using only wood. For more than 60 hours straight, the kiln was stoked every 12 to 15 minutes. The effects on the surface of this pot are a result of the kiln's flames flowing around the piece like water throughout the firing. Wood ash - a byproduct of the firewood used to stoke the kiln - is carried by the flames to accumulate on the surface of the pots, melt, and then harden to form a glaze.
It stands 2.5 tall and 3 wide across the rim. It holds about 7 ounces.
All Goertzen pottery is dishwasher and microwave safe.
