Antique Pyrex Oval Clear Glass Casserole Dish - Rare / HTF - with Lid - Circa 1915-1919 - #293-297. Pyrex is an ovenware brand developed by Corning glass works in 1915. The earliest clear glass Pyrex was back stamped with a simple circle with PYREX in an all-caps, serif font, with Corning Glassworks' CG monogram above and below. The CG monogram is often mistaken for and referred to by collectors as a dollar sign, albeit a backwards one. A revised backstamp, with the word PATENTED above PYREX and MAY 27, 1919 below, was used after that date through 1924. This particular piece is shown in the 1919 Pyrex Catalog. It is described as a Pyrex Oval Baking Dish-Colorless with yellowish cast, non-lead borosilicate glass; pressed. The lid is marked Pyrex 293-297. This piece measures approx. 8 1/4" L x 6" W x 3" H without lid - 6" H to top of knob on lid. The dish and lid are in overall excellent condition for their age. The lid has a few surface scratches and a few air bubbles within the glass. The dish shows a few interior and exterior surface scratches and an exterior scuff ring around where it sits. A marvelous example of an Antique Pyrex Oval Casserole Dish!! A truly collectable piece that you don't run across every day.
